Carpe Diem!
On my recent trip to Newfoundland, I discovered that flying wasn't quite as traumatic as I had worried it might be because of the pandemic. After that, I decided to spread my wings a little further, so to speak, and head further afield. Besides, after 2 years of not being able to go to Europe, I was getting desperate. So, I decided to seize the opportunity and take a chance. Besides, I am not getting any younger! I will be spending the next four weeks mainly in France but with a weekend in Switzerland. While I will be visiting some of my favourite places (Alsace and the Cote d'Azur), I will also be seeing some new ones. Along the way, I hope to find some interesting experiences to blog about.
In a couple of hours, I will start my journey to Alsace. The first part, flying, is not what is concerning to me. However, hauling my bag on and off the three trains that will get me to the train station closest to the village where my friend lives will be much more stressful. I have a bit of a propensity to get on the wrong train! So, fingers crossed it will all go smoothly and that, in about 18 hours, I will be happily sipping wine with my good friends in Alsace.
I like to use the app called TripIt when I travel. It is very slick as all you have to do is set up a trip and then forward any emails of trip plans - flights, trains, tours, accommodation - to it and they are entered automatically. Here is the first page from the app for this trip and it will give you some idea of the route I am taking. Following the planes and trains, I will be in my friend's car which will take me on the short ferry ride across the Rhine from Germany to France and the village called Rhinau where I will start my adventure.
Stay tuned! Remember: SIEZE THE DAY - whatever that looks like for you!!
